Hello

My name is Ripley Gosling

I like to live through the eyes of lost historical figures or unique creatures scuttling about in the undergrowth. I spend lots of time immersed in history books, nature documentaries and picturebooks. I turn these adventures into illustrations and create my own visual narratives in the forms of picturebooks, comics and paper engineered books. I am often fascinated by the unusual oddities within medieval bestiaries, the speculations into the disappearance of sparrows in winter or the daily life of the creatures in the ocean depths. I think that other people might find these stories fascinating too.

The barn owl rests a weary eye

The robin sings strong and proud

He breaks the day from his throne of hawthorn

The mossy hedgerow beneath him stirs

Home of the hedgehog

Hidden within her arms

Safe from hound, hawk or highway

Friend to the fieldmouse deep in her hole

Down by the river in the cradle of willow

Through bulrush boulevard quick swims the minnow

But not quick enough

For kingfisher flush
